Pest Control For The Way Beaumaris Homes Are Built
Ants on the bench, webs on the windows or something moving in the roof: in a Beaumaris house it has usually come in from the garden, the roof or under the floor. Most homes here are standalone houses, and many sit in bushy gardens of banksias and native shrubs, so it is rarely coming through a wall from next door.
If you live in one of the original homes from the 1950s, 60s or 70s, have a look up at the eaves. Some of these homes sit on stumps with a space under the floor, and some have the garage built in underneath. Rats and mice love a space like that, because nobody goes down there and they can come and go unseen. If your home has a subfloor, that space is included in the treatment.
A lot of blocks in Beaumaris have had the original house replaced with a new two storey home or a pair of townhouses. A new build like that usually sits on a concrete slab with nothing underneath, so pests have to find their way in at floor level. Which parts of Beaumaris do you service?

Something runs over the roof at night. What is it?
Often it is a possum, and the timing is the clue. Possums tend to head out around dusk and come home before dawn, so you hear them at the start and end of the night, often on the side of the roof nearest a tree. Rats and mice keep at it through the night and leave droppings behind. With banksias and other natives growing close to so many Beaumaris houses, possums have no trouble getting up. How do we stop the webs coming back under the eaves?
Having the outside of the house treated is what brings them down. Wide eaves are sheltered from the wind and full of passing insects, which is exactly what webbing spiders want, and many of the original Beaumaris homes were built with broad eaves and tall timber framed windows. There is a demolition on our street. Should we expect mice?
You might. When an old house comes down, any rats or mice living under it or in its garden have to find somewhere else, and the homes on either side are the closest. If you start hearing scratching in the ceiling or finding droppings in the garage or pantry once the work starts, ring us early. It is much easier to sort out before they settle in.
We keep finding droppings in the garage under the house. What should we do?
Ring us before it spreads into the rest of the house. A garage built in under the home is dark and quiet and often full of stored boxes and bags, the kind of spot rats and mice choose to nest in. Once they are in there, the walls and the ceiling are the next step. Tell us where you found the droppings and what is kept nearby, because it helps us find where they are coming in.
Can we stay home on the day?
Yes, as long as the treatment is outside only. Once the inside is treated as well, the whole family, the dog and the cat included, needs four hours away from home afterwards. If you keep fish or anything else in a tank, let us know before the day. Pick a day when a few hours out suits everyone. If you have young children or pets and would rather not go anywhere, ask about an outside only treatment.
Is once a year enough for a Beaumaris house?
Not always. Once or twice a year is the usual range for a general pest treatment.
