Pest Control for Your Toorak Home or Flat
Hearing scratching in the roof? Finding ants in the kitchen?
Or are cobwebs appearing along the cornices?
Tell us what you have noticed and where in the home and the SOS Pest Control team will identify what you are dealing with, treat it, and we can suggest ways to pest proof your home to keep returning pests to a minimum.
Our general pest control treatments treat most of the creepy crawlies that enter homes: webbing spiders, moths, cockroaches and silverfish.
If there are large numbers of particular pests we can do targeted treatments for these as well. You can see our pricing page for what a treatment costs.
Toorak Pest Control: What We Can Help With
Rodent Control
Scratching overhead, droppings or chewed packaging? We bait and trap the rats you have got, then find the gap they came in through and shut it.
Spider Control
Webs around the windows and eaves? Or a white tail crossing the floor at night? We treat the outside of the house so they stop getting in.
Ant Control
Ants back in the kitchen again? Tell us where you are seeing them. We bait the trail so they carry it home, and the nest goes with it.
Carpet Beetle Control
Damage to wool rugs, carpet edges or stored clothing? We treat the carpet, the edges and the trims where the larvae feed and the eggs are laid.
Cockroach Control
Cockroaches in the kitchen or bathroom? We gel bait German cockroaches and treat garden species through the kitchen, bathroom and wall voids.
Wasp Nest Removal
European wasp nest in the eaves, the roof or a wall cavity? Do not go near it. We find the nest and destroy it.
Possums
A branch over the roof or a loose spot at the eaves is all a possum needs to get into the ceiling. We take it out of the roof and make sure that entry is closed.
Mice Control
Mice get through gaps you would not look at twice. We bait indoors to the current rules and seal the gaps they are using.

Pest Control Toorak: Where Pests Get Into Flats, Terraces and Older Houses
In Toorak you could be in a flat in an older walk-up, a newer apartment, a terrace or an older house with timber floors, and pests get into each of them a different way. Find the one below that sounds like your place.
Cockroaches turning up night after night in your flat? In Toorak's older walk-up blocks, chances are they did not start in your place. German cockroaches hide in the warm spots behind the fridge, the stove and the dishwasher, and they travel from flat to flat through the wall cavities and the pipework that runs between the kitchens and bathrooms stacked above and below you.
Newer apartment buildings and townhouses are usually built on a concrete slab, so there is no space under the floor for pests to live in. The usual ways in are a gap under the front door, the tracks of a balcony slider, wall vents, and anywhere a pipe or cable passes through a wall.
Toorak's older houses, whether a Victorian home, a 1920s or 30s house or a terrace, will usually have timber floors sitting over a subfloor. Hardly anyone goes under there, so rats and mice can settle in without being disturbed. They come up into the kitchen and the wall cavities through the gaps around pipes and cables, and silverfish and spiders like the cool damp down there as well.
In a terrace or a semi, the wall you share with next door is a common way for mice to move between the two homes, so mention it if the neighbours have had trouble. Wool rugs and carpeted bedrooms in older homes can also bring carpet beetles.
Your street matters as well. If you live near Toorak Village on Toorak Road, or near the shops along Malvern Road, you are close to cafes, restaurants and the bins behind them, and that is where cockroaches and rodents find their food. In the quieter streets further back, the problems tend to come in from the garden: ants finding a way into the kitchen and webbing spiders building along the eaves and window frames.
If your street runs down towards the Yarra, rats can use the river banks and drains to move around. And where big old trees hang over the roof, a possum can step straight across from a branch, so noises in the ceiling at night are worth getting checked.
Pest Control Reviews From Toorak And Melbourne's Inner South East

Pest Control in Every Part of Toorak
We cover all of Toorak, from the Yarra in the north to Malvern Road in the south. If you are in a block, tell us which floor you are on and how we get through the front entrance. If you are in a house, tell us about side gates, parking and any dogs.
In a block of flats, tell us if you have seen activity in a shared space such as the stairwell, the bin area or the garages. Those areas belong to everyone in the building, so it helps to know early if the body corporate or the building manager needs to be part of the plan.
Whether this is the first time you have dealt with pests, or they have come back after a previous treatment, tell us what has been happening. We will check for the signs, explain what we recommend and why, and tell you what the treatment involves.
South Yarra, Armadale and Malvern are next door to Toorak, and we cover those too. Any other suburb we look after is listed under service areas.

Toorak Pest Control FAQs
Do you cover the whole of Toorak for pest control?
Yes. Wherever you are in Toorak, and whatever kind of home it is, we can help. Ring us or fill in the quote form with your address and what you have noticed, and we will take it from there. If you live in a block of flats, let us know which floor you are on.
I live in a block of flats and keep finding cockroaches. Is it coming from next door?
Quite possibly. German cockroaches move between flats through gaps in the walls and around the shared pipes, so in an older block the problem is rarely one flat on its own. If the people beside, above or below you are seeing them, say so when you book. When several flats are affected, treating just one is often not enough, and SOS sets the course of action with that in mind.
I live in an older house with timber floors. Where are pests getting in?
Usually from underneath. Older homes with timber floors sit over a subfloor, and rats and mice, spiders and silverfish all use that space. Rodents come up into the kitchen and the walls through gaps around pipes and cables. We check and treat under the floor as part of the job, so let us know where you have heard or seen things when you book.
There is scratching in the ceiling of my flat. Where is it coming from?
In an older block it may not have started above your flat. The roof space often runs over several flats, so a rat or possum that got in at one end can be heard all the way along. Tell us which part of the ceiling the noise comes from, what time you hear it, and whether your neighbours have heard it too. That helps us track down where it got in.
I live near Toorak Village. Will I see more cockroaches and rats?
You may. Cafes, restaurants and the bins behind them give cockroaches and rodents a steady food supply, so homes in the nearby streets are more likely to see them. The same goes for the shops along Malvern Road. Keeping your own bins sealed and food put away helps, but if you are already seeing droppings or cockroaches at night, get it treated before it settles in.
My street runs down towards the Yarra. Am I more likely to get rats?
You can be. Rats follow river banks, drains and overgrown edges, and the houses closest to them are an easy next step when they want shelter. Keep firewood stacked off the ground, and keep compost bins and pet food covered. If you are hearing scratching at night or there are droppings in the shed or garage, ring us and we will find the gap they are using.
I have found small bare patches in a wool rug. Could that be carpet beetles?
It could be. Carpet beetle larvae feed on wool, fur and feathers, so rugs, carpet edges under furniture and clothes left in a wardrobe are where the damage usually shows. You might also find tiny shed skins, or small round beetles on a windowsill. Tell us which rooms are affected and what has been damaged, so we can work out what is causing it.
What if I am still seeing pests after treatment?
For the first week or two that is the treatment working, not failing. What you are seeing is activity being disturbed. If it is still going after that, ring us, because we would rather know.
