Pest Control for Your Sandringham Home
Hearing scratching in the roof? Finding ants in the kitchen?
Or are cobwebs appearing along the cornices?
Tell us what you have noticed and where in the home and the SOS Pest Control team will identify what you are dealing with, treat it, and we can suggest ways to pest proof your home to keep returning pests to a minimum.
Our general pest control treatments treat most of the creepy crawlies that enter homes: webbing spiders, moths, cockroaches and silverfish.
If there are large numbers of particular pests we can do targeted treatments for these as well. You can see our pricing page for what a treatment costs.
What Pest Control Can We Help With in Sandringham?
Rodent Control
Scratching overhead, droppings or chewed packaging? We bait and trap the rats you have got, then find the gap they came in through and shut it.
Spider Control
Webs around the windows and eaves? Or a white tail crossing the floor at night? We treat the outside of the house so they stop getting in.
Ant Control
Ants back in the kitchen again? Tell us where you are seeing them. We bait the trail so they carry it home, and the nest goes with it.
Carpet Beetle Control
Damage to wool rugs, carpet edges or stored clothing? We treat the carpet, the edges and the trims where the larvae feed and the eggs are laid.
Cockroach Control
Cockroaches in the kitchen or bathroom? We gel bait German cockroaches and treat garden species through the kitchen, bathroom and wall voids.
Wasp Nest Removal
European wasp nest in the eaves, the roof or a wall cavity? Do not go near it. We find the nest and destroy it.
Possums
A heavy thud and scrambling overhead at night could be a possum and not a rat. We can remove it from the roof and shut the gap it was coming in through.
Mice Control
Mice get through gaps you would not look at twice. We bait indoors to the current rules and seal the gaps they are using.

Sandringham Pest Control, From Bungalows to Flats
Mice in the pantry or a trail of ants on the bench? How they found their way inside has a lot to do with what sort of Sandringham home you have. We have looked after homes around Melbourne's bayside suburbs since 2003.
The Edwardian houses and Californian bungalows in Sandringham generally sit on stumps, with timber floorboards and a subfloor space under them. In a house like that, the space is dark, sheltered and out of the way, and rats and mice will happily use it. The signs are usually droppings at the back of the kitchen cupboards, a chewed corner on a packet, or scratching under the floorboards at night.
Older homes often come with established gardens as well. Ants can nest in the beds right beside the house and spiders have plenty of places to build, so if the ants keep finding the kitchen or the cobwebs are back on the verandah every week, the garden is usually where they are coming from.
Townhouses and newer units are likely to have a concrete slab floor poured straight onto the ground, so pests have no crawl space to shelter in. In a townhouse the way in is usually at ground level: under the doors, through weep holes and vents, and around pipes where they pass through the wall.
Where several flats share a building, what you are seeing has often started in another unit. German cockroaches are the main one for this. They spread from unit to unit through wall cavities and the pipes the flats share, so if the flat next door or upstairs has them as well, say so as you book. If the source is next door, treating your flat alone may not be enough.
Living in or near the village is a bit different again. Station Street, Melrose Street and Bay Road have cafes, restaurants and food shops, and where food is prepared and the bins out the back fill up, cockroaches and rodents tend to follow. Some of the older shop buildings were built with a residence above or behind the shop. For anyone living in one, a cockroach problem is often a whole building problem, and it is worth finding out whether the business downstairs has its own treatment in place.
Nearer Beach Road and the water, webbing spiders tend to be the bigger nuisance. They build across window frames, around the front door and on outdoor furniture facing the bay. An outside treatment around the windows, doors and eaves is what deals with them.

Pest Control Across Sandringham
We work right across Sandringham, from the village to the streets back towards Bluff Road. As you book, mention roughly how big the place is and anything that affects the visit, such as which entrance to use, whether there is a pet at home, or where we can park near the shops.
If you live above or behind a shop in the village, tell us what kind of business is downstairs when you book. A cafe or a takeaway below you changes what we look for in your kitchen and bathroom.

Sandringham Pest Control FAQs
Do you do pest control everywhere in Sandringham?
Yes, every street in Sandringham, from the flats in the village to the townhouses and the older houses over towards Bluff Road. SOS is a family business based in Braeside. When you book, give us the address and the type of home, so we can tell ahead of time whether there is a subfloor, a shared wall or a shop below you.
My house is an old bungalow on stumps. How are the mice getting in?
Usually from underneath. An older house on stumps has a subfloor, and mice and rats get into it through gaps at the base of the walls, around the vents or where pipes come through. From there they climb up inside the walls and come out in the kitchen cupboards. Getting under an older house to check and treat that space is something we do on homes like yours, and when the rodents have gone we look at sealing the openings they came through.
I live in a flat above a shop in the village. Why do the cockroaches keep coming back?
Most likely because they are coming from below or next door. German cockroaches stay close to warmth, food and water, and they move through wall cavities and along shared pipes, so a flat that shares a wall with a cafe or a takeaway is exposed to whatever is in that building. Tell us what the business is as you book. Clearing German cockroaches can take several treatments, and dealing with the whole building usually works better than treating a single flat.
Why are there so many spiders on my windows facing the bay?
Webbing spiders like an open spot with a breeze, and homes near the water get plenty of both. They build across window frames, under the eaves and along balcony rails, where flying insects end up. An outside treatment around those areas deals with them. White tail spiders come inside hunting these webbing spiders, so clearing the webs outside gives the white tails less reason to come in. Our spider control page goes into white tails in more detail.
We back onto bushland. Does that mean more pests?
It can. Homes beside a reserve, like the heathland on Bay Road, or facing the foreshore across Beach Road, sit closer to places where rats, possums and spiders can live undisturbed. Rats travel along fence lines and garden edges, and possums use trees and fences to get up onto a roof. If that is your situation, mention it on the phone or in the quote form so the back fence line gets a proper look.
Will the family and pets have to go out while you treat?
Yes, if the inside is being treated. Everyone, including pets, needs to stay out for four hours once it is done. If it is just the outside being done, you can carry on at home as normal. Tell us who lives there, including fish tanks and animals kept in an enclosure. It is safe for everyone who lives there, pets included, while still being deadly for whatever it is aimed at. Many families with small children go with the outside treatment so they can stay at home.
How often should a Sandringham home have pest control?
A general pest treatment is normally done one or two times a year. Some people book every six months because they would prefer pests never become a problem at all, and others are happy with once a year when the weather starts to warm. Your home, what has turned up before and the way your household runs all play a part.
What if I am still seeing pests after treatment?
For the first week or two that is the treatment working, not failing. What you are seeing is activity being disturbed. If it is still going after that, ring us, because we would rather know.
